AMISHMAN KILLED BY LIGHTNING

Berne, Ind. — Funeral services for Alvin Schwartz, 33, of rural Nappanee were held on July 31 with Bishop Amos L. Lehman officiating.

Schwartz, an Amish farmer and an employee of the Franklin Coach Co. at Nappanee, had been fishing from a boat in a lake in Cass County, Mich. when he was struck by a bolt of lightning, which killed him but left two companions in the boat unharmed.

A native of Berne, he is survived by his widow, the former Ruby Stutzman; two sons, Stephen and Keith, both of the home; five brothers and four sisters; and his father, Adam Schwartz, well-known Amish farmer of rural Berne.
