DIEDRICH JACOB SCHULZ

Diedrich Schulz was born August 8, 1875 in Rosenort, South Russia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob B. Schulz. His elementary education was received at Rosenbach.

At 21 years he was married to Maria Braun with whom he had 11 children, six of whom preceded both he and his first wife in death. In 1901 the family migrated to Winkler, Man., where they farmed for a time. In 1905 both Diedrich and his wife were baptized and accepted into the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church.

Later that fall they moved to Saskatchewan onto a farm near Herbert. A few years later they moved to another farm southeast of Herbert where they farmed until 1947. They assisted in the organization of the Greenfarm Church which was led by Rev. J. W. Thiessen.

His first wife passed away in 1937 and later the same year he married her sister Anna. In 1947 they moved to Clearbrook where they lived very happily until the death of his second wife in 1953. Shortly after her death he returned to Herbert enjoying there a wide circle of friends and relatives.

The Lord took him home October 4 of this year at the age of 90 years after a relatively short illness. Except for a year before his death, he spent all of his declining years in his own home. He left behind five children, 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and three step-children. The children are Diedrich, Lizzie (Mrs. P. P. Penner), Mary (Mrs. Tony Wiebe) of Herbert; Kathryn (Mrs. George Thiessen) of Saskatoon and Anne (Mrs. Norman Pridham)of Vancouver.

The funeral was conducted in the Herbert MB Church on October 7 with Rev. Herman Voth in charge.
