SAMUEL P. SCHULTZ

Samuel P. Schultz of Reedley, Calif., son of Peter and Florantina [sic Florentina] Schroeder Schultz, was born in South Russia May 15, 1878 and came to this country with his parents when he was but three years old. They settled at Hillsboro, Kan. Later they moved to Fairview, Okla. Here he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior by Rev. John Unruh.

He was married to Anna Foth in 1901. This marriage was terminated with her death in 1919. To this union were born 12 children. Three preceded him in death. Two years later he married Bena Hadel and she too preceded him in death, going to her reward in 1938. In 1941 he entered holy wedlock with the former Anna Schroeder, who likewise had had two similar experiences in losing her spouse. Those two were able to share their lives for 19 years, which meant much to them Besides living in Fairview, the family resided in Shafter 28 years and San Jose 10 years before moving to Reedley in 1957. He had earned his livlihood [sic] as a farmer. After moving to Reedley they joined the First Mennonite church where they have been faithful members.

He was a good husband and father, greatly loved by his own children and those who knew him. He had a good testimony for his Lord and was known and respected as a Christian neighbor. He was not apt to complain.

He became ill suddenly Thrusday [sic] evening, Aug. 27, and was taken to the Reedley hospital, where he passed away the next afternoon, August 28, 1959.

He will be greatly missed and his life will be cherished by those who remain: his wife Anna; nine children, Florence, Mrs. Harry McWilliams, and John of Waco, Calif., Herman, Harry and Ernest of Shafter, Calif., Anna, Mrs. Al Breece [sic Breese], and Edna, Mrs. Connie Gaines of Bakersfield, Calif., Ruby, Mrs. Fred Felix of Sacramento, Calif., Lavina, Mrs. Marvin Penner of Fresno, Calif.; five step-children Isabel [sic Isabell], Mrs. Paul Haines of Beaverton, Oregon, Josephine, Mrs. Peter Schultz, and Dora, Mrs. Jake Heinrichs, of Reedley, Dan of Los Banos, Calif. and Hilda, Mrs. Lowell McFarlin of Orosi, Calif.; 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry of Dinuba, Calif., three sisters, Josephine, Mrs. John Friesen of San Jose, Calif., Gertrude, Mrs. Ben Friesen, and Bertha, Mrs. George Doerksen, of Custer, Wash., and many relatives and friends.
