EIGHT YEAR OLD BOY FIRST POLIO FATALITY IN MANITOBA DISTRICT
Altona, Man. —J ohn Schroeder, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Schroeder, Altbergthal, was the first polio victim of this area when he succumbed to the disease in the King George hospital, Winnipeg, on Thursday, October 9. He died of paralysis of the throat.
Four other cases were reported here during the week, two of whom have been taken to the Children’s hospital, Winnipeg, and the other two to Grand Forks hospital. The number of Manitoba fatalities from this disease this year now stands at 21.
