THREE BOYS BURN TO DEATH UNDER PORCH AT WINNIPEG, MAN.

Altona, Manitoba. — Funeral services were held at the Bethel Mission church, Winnipeg, and the Sommerfelder church here on Sept. 25 for J. Elmer Schroeder, 11, one of the three boys who burned to death under a porch at Winnipeg early Sunday morning, Sept. 21. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Schroeder.

The youth had asked permission to stay out on Saturday night, and was believed staying in a neighborhood play-shack. The next morning, Mrs. Schroeder heard shouting and rushed out to see Dennis Gregory, 15, staggering in the yard with smoldering clothes. He pointed to the smoke-covered porch and screamed, "Elmer’s in there.”

The Schroeder youth and two companions, 15 and 16 years of age, died in the blaze.
