DAVID M. SCHROEDER

David M. Schroeder, son of John H. and Katharina Warkentin Schroeder, was born Oct. 4, 1883, near Goessel, in McPherson County, Kansas. He died on June 28, 1972, at the age of 88.

He received his education in the North Blumenfelt School in Spring Valley Township near Goessel. He was baptized on May 22, 1904 in the Alexanderwohl Church by Rev. Peter Balzer.

At the age of 17, he started his career as a carpenter with his Uncle Jacob Schroeder. He worked as a carpenter and small farmer until he was stricken with a heart attack in 1955.

He married Katharina Buller on June 14, 1908 and moved to a farm near Buhler, Kan. They attended the Hoffnungsau Church until the organization of the Buhler Mennonite Church, of which they were charter members. He served as trustee of this church for two terms of five years each. He was involved in all three building programs.

To this union three children were born. A daughter, Hilda, died in infancy.

They moved to their present home in Buhler in 1957. In 1966 he suffered a second heart attack, after which he never fully regained his health.

He is survived by his wife Katharina; Elmer D. Schroeder and wife Hulda of Sun City, Ariz.; Ruth and husband Arnold Siemens of Buhler; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Klassen of Inman and Mrs. Anna Janzen of Clearwater, Kan.; four brothers, Henry, Adolf and Arthur of Newton, Kan. and Alvin of Goessel, Kan.; two step-brothers, P. D. Buller of Hillsboro, Kan. and Dave D. Buller of Newton, Kan.
