Retired Bishop Dies

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Rev. Edd P. Schrock, 67, retired bishop of the Salem Mennonite Church at Foraker, were held May 23 at the church. Bishop Schrock, who resided in Elkhart, died May 20.

Edd P. Shrock, son of Peter S. and Barbara (Troyer) Shrock, was born near Shipshewana, Ind. on Aug. 14, 1899, and died in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind., after a short illness on May 20, 1967 at the age of 67 years, nine months and six days.

On July 10, 1919 he was married near Yoder, Kan. to Fannie Yoder, who survives.

Also surviving are eight children: Alma, Mrs. Elmer Knepp, Plainsville [sic Plainville], Ind.; Paul C. Elkhart, Ind.; Martha, Mrs. Calvin Slaubaugh, Wolford, N. D.; Fred, Elkhart, Ind.; Phyllis, Mrs. John D. Schrock, Garden City, Mo. two brothers, Sam P., Canby, Ore., and his twin brother Fred P., Goshen, Ind.; 30 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. His parents, one son, three brothers, three sisters, and four grandchildren are deceased.

They lived in Reno County, Kan. for ten years. In 1929 they moved to northern Indiana where they were active at the Shore Mennonite Church.

On Oct. 8, 1933 he was ordained to the ministry for Berea Mennonite Church near Montgomery, Ind. In 1941 he was ordained bishop for that area. He helped promote the mission work in southern Indiana and parts of Kentucky. In 1961 he and his wife moved to Elkhart, Ind. In 1962 he began serving as assistant minister at the Salem Mennonite Church near New Paris, Ind. He served in this capacity until the time of his death.
