HIGHWAY ACCIDENT FATAL TO AGED SOUTH DAKOTA MAN

Freeman, S. D. — A large group of friends and relatives gathered at the Salem-Zion church here on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 2, to pay final respects to Joseph J. Schrag, 78, a long-time resident of the community who passed away Oct. 29 after being fatally injured in a highway accident.

The final services were in charge of Rev. J. J. Regier, assisted by Rev. W. K. Claassen and Rev. A. P. Waltner.

Mr. Schrag was standing between his parked car and trailer along highway 81 when an oncoming truck struck the trailer, knocking him down. He passed away about two hours later at the Sioux Falls hospital.

Born in Russia, he came to this area at the age of five and during his lifetime became well-known as a farmer, telephone lineman, thresher, building mover and livestock buyer.
