MRS. MARGARET SCHMIERER

Mrs. Margaret Schmierer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. Schmidt, was born at Hillsboro, Kansas on July 8, 1886 and passed to her heavenly home Feb. 7, 1960, having reached the age of 73 years, six months and 30 days.

In 1898, at the age of 12, she and her parents moved to a farm near Bessie, Okla.

On August 13, 1905 at the age of 17 she publically expressed her faith in the Lord as her personal Saviour from sin, was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. Michael Klassen and united with the Herold Menonite church southeast of Bessie.

On Feb. 20, 1913 she was married to John Schmierer by Rev. Jacob Klassen, who gave them this verse for their home: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Josh. 24:15). After marriage Mrs. Schmierer transferred her membership to the Sichar Mennonite church where both she and her husband were active members of the church. On Sept. 30, 1951 she became a charter member of the First Mennonite church in Clinton to which she remained a loyal member until her death.

The Lord blessed their home with four daughters.

During the past two years the Lord led her through much suffering. On May 14, 1958 her left leg was amputated and on Dec. 11, 1959 her right leg was also taken off. Even though the future often seemed dark, humanly speaking, the Lord nevertheless gave her grace to exercise her faith in Him. It was also a real joy to her heart when on Jan. 3, 1960 her husband also united with the First Mennonite church in Clinton.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband; four daughters, Agnes, Mrs. Carl Holliman of Bessie, Hannah, Mrs. Andrew Holliman of Greensboro, North Carolina, Evangeline, Mrs. Menno Schmidt of Cordell and leah, Mrs. John Schmidt of Reedley, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a foster brother, H. S. Ratzlaff of Cordell; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. H. B. Schmidt of Cordell, Mrs. P. B. Schmidt of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Jake Rittel of Cordell, Eva Schmierer of Bessie; a brother-in-law, Ben Schaffner of Byers, Texas; besides a host of relatives and friends.
