WAYNE HELMER SCHMIDT

Wayne Schmidt died Sept. 28. He was born Mar. 16, 1945 in Waldheim, Sask. to Jacob and Annie Schmidt. The family moved to Saskatoon. He was baptized Aug. 31, 1958, joining Brotherfield (Sask.) MB Church. He taught Sunday school all his life. He led trail rides at Redberry Bible Camp and served on boards of the provincial and national MB conferences. He was moderator at Christian Fellowship Church, Lanigan. He attended Bethany Bible School, then University of Saskatchewan. He married Wanda Dick Aug. 20, 1965. He taught junior high in Prince Albert, Sask. for 1 year, then returned to university. He taught in Saskatoon, then moved to Lanigan School District where he taught for 29 years and served as music consultant. He formed and directed school, church and community choirs. He sang in groups and in duets with his wife. He taught guitar and ukulele lessons. He helped organize the Lanigan and District Music Festival and the Lanigan and District Arts Council that brought renowned artists to the community. He enjoyed woodworking and landscaping. He was concerned for the spiritual wellness of his family and took pride in his children. He is mourned by Wanda, daughter Dorinda Sikorsky; son Trevor; 2 granddaughters; 1 brother; 2 sisters. The funeral was Oct. 2 in Lanigan Community Hall with Steve White ministering.
