Peter J. Schmidt of La Junta, Colo. died in Denver, Colo. on Saturday, July 27, following a short illness.

Mr. Schmidt, a retired farmer, was born at McPherson, Kan. on May 20, 1879. He married Miss Mary Base at Pauls Valley, Okla. on Aug. 25, 1901. They moved to Colorado from Oklahoma in 1932 and to La Junta in 1936. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in La Junta in 1951.

He was a member of the Mennonite Church in Oklahoma.

Besides his wife, Mary, of the home, he is survived by two sons, Dave of Apache, Okla. and John of Pueblo; five daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Janz of Lawton, Okla.. Mrs. Agnes Miller of La Junta, Mrs. Susie Grauberger of Denver, Mrs. Amelia Nutt, of Ordway, Colo., Mrs. Margaret Beek of Cheyene Wells [sic Cheyenne Wells], Colo.; one brother, Andrew of Cimarron, Kan.; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Smith of Benton Harbor, Mich. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Esther, died in 1938.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 31, at Peacock Green Memorial Chapel in La Junta with Rev. Curt D. Boese of Bartlett, Neb. officiating. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery.
