FRED A. SCHMIDT

Fred A. Schmidt son of Peter D. and Lena Schmidt, was born near Pawnee Rock, Kansas, September 10, 1893, and passed from this life June 12, 1949, at St. Francis hospital, Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 55 years, nine months and two days.

In 1912 he moved to Kiowa county, Kansas where he resided until his departure.

On February 24, 1915, he was united in marriage to Edith Wadel [sic Wedel]. God blessed the union with six children: Leland, Beuna, (Mrs. Paul Unruh), Ruby, (Mrs. Laverne Koehn), Marjorie, (Mrs. Dennis Unruh), and Freddie, all of whom reside in the immediate vicinity. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alta Mae, and his loving companion, who passed away May 18, 1948.

He with his wife accepted Christ as his Saviour in the year 1926. They later united with the Calvary Mennonite church, Greensburg, Kansas, where he was a member until the time of his passing.

For the past year he did not enjoy good health and the last months of his life he had much pain and suffering. Throughout these trying days he found the Lord very precious and near to him. He willingly submitted to God's will for him and had a clear testimony of faith and trust until the end.

He leaves to mourn besides his loving family his mother, Mrs. P. D. Schmidt of Pawnee Rock; three brothers, Louis of Haviland, Chester of Pawnee Rock, and Bennie of Great Bend; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Dirks, Larned, Mrs. O. A. Siebert, Salina, and Mrs. Gilbert Marteney, Hutchinson.

Funeral services were conducted at the Calvary Mennonite church, Greensburg, on June 16, E. M. Yost of Denver, Colo. officiating.
