text of obituary:

EVA SCHMIDT

Mrs. Eva (Schmidt, Warkentin) Schmidt, daughter of Tobias and Helena (Wedel) Schmidt, was born April 6, 1889 in Asia.

At the age of three she came to America with her parents, settling at Pawnee Rock, Kan. Early in life she lost her mother in death, but received a step-mother when her father was married to Justina Bergen.

In 1899 she moved with her parents to Medford, Okla. Here she received her education in the public schools.

It was also here that she came to know the Lord as her Saviour and was baptized upon the confession of her faith on May 19, 1906, and received as a member into the Medford Mennonite Church. Later she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro, Kan. and in 1955 to the First Mennonite Church of Newton, Kan., where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On July 28, 1907, she was married to Aaron Warkentin, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1944. This union was blessed with three children, Alvin, Selma, and Daniel. Daniel died at the age of nine years.

On July 31, 1945, mother was married to Bernhard H. Schmidt. Together they enjoyed the sunset years of life. On Jan. 28, 1963, after a brief illness, mother quietly went to be with the Lord.

Mother always had great concern for her children as well as her step-children, whom she accepted without reservation. One of her final concerns was that all be present for a reunion in heaven.

Surviving are her husband Bernhard H. Schmidt, of the home; her step-mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt of Newton; two children, Selma and husband Ben Hildebrand of Hillsboro, and Alvin Warkentin and wife Elfrieda of Newton; one foster son, Jacob W. Konrath and wife Helen of Medford, Okla.; five step-children, Arthur Schmidt and wife Hedwig of Newton, John Schmidt and wife Marion [sic Marian] of Newton, Mary and husband Leland Truax of Peabody, Ben Schmidt and wife Dorothy of Wichita, Cornelius (Mike) Schmidt and wife Sylvia of Newton; two sisters, five half-sisters and four half-brothers, Mrs. Anna Schmidt and Mrs. Katie Warkentin of Peabody, Kan., Mrs. Neal ((Marie) Redger of Durham, Kan., Mrs. J. H. (Martha) Neufeld, Mrs. H. G. (Freda) Flaming, Mrs. Edd Friesen, all of Medford, Mrs. Waldo (Juanita) Neufeld of Phoenix, Ariz., Ben T. and Martha Schmidt and Albert and Erna Schmidt of Medford, John and Opal Schmidt of Blackwell, Okla., David T. and Kathren Schmidt of Newton; 14 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
