MRS. JOHN A. SCHMIDT

Mrs. Elizabeth (Regier) Schmidt was born at Henderson, Neb. on Jan. 22, 1887. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Regier, to Enid, Okla. Being reared in a godly home she was converted at an early age, baptized when she was 13 years old and received into the membership of the North Enid Mennonite Brethren church where she faithfully served her Lord through the years.

On Oct. 18, 1906 she was married to John A. Schmidt of Enid. The young couple established their home on a farm north of Enid where two years later a son was born to them; however, God permitted the infant child to die nine days later. Thereafter they moved from the farm into the city of Enid where they lived until in 1945 when Sister Schmidt's father passed away. They returned to the farm then to be of help to her mother and family. God blessed the home of Brother and Sister Schmidt with two other sons, John and Walter.

In 1929 the family moved to the Coldwater, Texas community but after six difficult years they returned to live at Enid again. The year 1940 particularly was filled with hardships. Sister Schmidt underwent a serious operation but after a while the Lord restored her health. On Oct. 18, 1956, the devoted couple were privileged to observe their golden wedding day.

In 1958 Mrs. Schmidt suffered from a fall in which her hip was broken and from which she never fully recovered. The last three years of her life were spent mostly in a wheel-chair. She took this hard lot without complaining.

On July 19, 1961, she with her husband moved into the Faiview Fellowship Home where they resided until her passing. She went to her eternal reward on Jan. 8, 1962, attaining the age of 74 years, 11 months and 15 days, having known much hardship, but also having learned to know many joys and blessings in loving service and devotion to God.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Schmidt; two sons, John H. and Walter A. Schmidt with their wives; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Isaac and John Regier, both of Enid. — J. A. V.
