EDITH SCHMIDT

Edith Schmidt, daughter of Andrew and Susan Wedel, was born near Tampa, Kansas October 31, 1897.

In 1911 she moved with her parents to Kiowa county, Kansas, where she resided until the time of her departure.

On February 24, 1915, she was united in marriage to Fred A. Schmidt. God blessed the union with six children: Leland; Beuna, Mrs. Paul Unruh; Marjorie, Mrs. Dennis Unruh: Ruby, Mrs. Laverne Koehn: and Freddie, all of whom reside in the immediate vicinity. One daughter, Alta Mae, preceded her in death.

As a wife and mother she is aptly and beautifully described by the wise man in Proverbs 31, "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed: Her husband also and he praiseth her."

Her deep concern for the spiritual welfare of her family was indeed characteristic of a true sincere Christian wife and mother.

She together with her husband accepted Christ as her Savior and Lord in the year 1926. Her life as a Christian was not without struggle and failure. But her sincere devotion to the Lord coupled with a beautiful spirit of humility and a deep sense of gratitude was indeed convincing of the genuiness [sic] of her faith.

She passed quietly and peacefully on into the presence of her Lord Tuesday morning, May 18. Her going was sudden and the loss sustained is hard to bear, but we bow in humble submission to Him who doeth all things well.

She leaves to mourn, besides her loving and devoted husband and family, three grandchildren; her step mother, Mrs. Abe Jantz; two brothers; two sisters; four half-brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.

She reached the age of fifty years six months and 18 days.
