DAN T. SCHMIDT

Dan T. Schmidt, son of Jacob E. and Elizabeth Baer Schmidt, was born March 12, 1882, at Halstead, Kansas, and passed away at his home on Saturday evening, September 7, at 4:30 o'clock. He lived his whole life in or near Halstead with the exception of four years, when the family lived at Geary, Oklahoma.

Mr. Schmidt was married to Ada Pleasant at Geary, Oklahoma, on December 30, 1909. To them were born four children: J. Erwin of El Dorado; Dale W. of Wichita; Glen M. of Halstead; and Mrs. Jean Wedel of Moundridge.

He was a member of the First Mennonite church of Halstead where he served as a trustee for many years.

Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Pleasant Schmidt; his four children and four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Selma Krehbiel of Maize and many other relatives.

Many interests occupied his busy life. The last few years he had been associated with Dr. Hertzler as manage of his farms. His friends knew Dan as a hard working man and a vigorous leader. His home, his church, his friends and his work give an indication of his many interests and abilities.

Memorial services were held in the First Mennonite church of Halstead on Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 1946, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. D. C. Wedel of Newton was in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. A. L. Koeneke of Halstead and Rev. H. T. Unruh of Hillsboro. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Krehbiel and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Vogt sang: "Abide With Me" and "Crossing The Bar." Mrs. W. D. Nelligan sang a solo, "God's Tomorrow." Mrs. Ruth Rose was the pianist and Miss Alma Ruth the organist.

The following young men with whom Mr. Schmidt worked acted as honorary bearers: M. E. Thiessen, Nick Weins, Rudi Penner, John O. Heidebrecht, Victor Martins, and Frank Quiring. Active bearers were: Richard Regier, Carl Haury, Oscar Berger, J. H. Mueller, John Will and B. H. Bauman. Burial was in the family lot in the Halstead cemetery.
