CLARENCE WESLEY SCHMIDT

Clarence Wesley Schmidt, son of Daniel B. and Anna Schmidt, was born on June 14, 1930, near Hillsboro, Kansas and died May 23, 1945 at 4:45 A. M. at the Bethesda Hospital at Goessel, Kansas. He reached the age of 14 years, 10 months and 9 days.

He received his public school training at the Pleasant Valley school east of Goessel. He had planned to continue his high school training this next school term and looked forward to this with great interest.

He was of happy disposition and of friendly nature, and to know hm was to love him. it was his sincere desire to take catechetical instruction the coming year and be baptized and thus join the Alexanderwohl church, which he faithfully attended with his parents.

Clarence had been blessed with excellent health all of his life and therefore it was a great shock to us all when on Monday morning, May 21, he was seriously injured. he was rushed to the hospital where all medical attention proved of no avail and he passed away the following day, early in the morning. Many prayers were offered for him, but the Lord took him to be with Him. When his pastor asked him at his bedside if he was ready to do and be with the Lord he readily responded, "I am ready."

We are often tossed and driven on a restless sea of time.
Somber skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine
In the land of perfect day when the mists have rolled away
We will understand it better by and by.

He leaves to mourn his untimely departure his deeply bereaved parents; two brothers, Walter and John, who are both overseas; two sisters, Mary Jane and Alice Eileen; two brothers-in-law, Edwin and Adolph Janzen. Two nieces and two nephews, one brother and one sister have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Bergen Funeral Home Friday, May 25 at 1:30 P.m. and at the Alexanderwohl church at 2:30 P. M. with Rev. P. A. Wedel and Rev. H. B. Schmidt in charge.

Pallbearers were Marvin Warkentin, H. B. Schmidt Jr., Leland Truax, Henry Unruh, Irvin Koehn and Dallas Redger. Interment was made in the church cemetery, in charge of the Bergen Funeral directors.
