BEN P. SCHMIDT

Ben P. Schmidt, son of Peter H. and Lizzie (Wedel) Schmidt, was born at Halstead, Harvey county, Kansas, Feb. 24, 1884, and passed away at his home in Meno, Okla., Aug. 13, 1950, at the age of 66 years, five months, and 17 days.

At the age of 15, he with his parents moved to Oklahoma, settling on a farm near Goltry.

On Jan. 20, 1910, he was united in marriage to Eva Unruh at Taloga, Okla., where they lived for some time, later moving to the Goltry communit8y. To this union were born three children: Lela, Mrs. Simon Becker, Perry, Okla.; Lee Schmidt, Goltry; and Leonard Schmidt, Meno.

He was baptized upon confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. H. R. Voth and accepted into the Kidron Mennonite church of Taloga. He later transferred his membership to the Zoar Mennonite church of Goltry. Here he remained a faithful member until his death.

He was in fairly good health until eight years ago. During this time he suffered three light strokes. In June 1950, he fell and cracked a bone in his right hip. This put in the wheel chair for about six weeks. On Friday morning, Aug. 11, 1950, he fell again and broke his left hip. Due to this fall and a bad heart, he passed away Aug. 13, 1950.

Those surviving are his wife of the home; one daughter and two sons; one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Sam of Goltry and Dan of Hayward, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Andrew Eck of Meno, Mrs. Ben Unruh of Meno, and Mrs. Henry Smith of Ringwood. Two brothers, John and Jake, an one sister, Lena, preceded him in death.
