ANNA JANZEN SCHMIDT

Anna Janzen Schmidt, daughter of the late Heinrich and Catharina Bergman Janzen, was born July 24, 1880, in Poland, Russia. When but a small child, she, with her parents, migrated to America, making their home in Bruderthal, Marion county, Kansas. Later, she moved with her parents to Mennoville, Oklahoma, where Father Janzen took up a homestead.

She was baptized upon the confession of her faith in her Saviour by the Rev. Ramseyer, and united with the Christian fellowship of the Mennoville Mennonite church. in the year 1918 she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite church of Hillsboro, of which she remained an active member until the time of her departure.

On Dec. 3, 1897, she was united in marriage with Emmanuel C. Mosiman and they established their home on a homestead in Oklahoma. This union was blessed with one daughter and one son, who now mourn the loss of their mother. Her husband passed away on May 4, 1917, at the age of 48 years.

On April 10, 1920, she was united in marriage with Andrew D. Schmidt, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of this life for over 20 years. Father Schmidt departed his life on April 19, 1940, leaving mother once more bereft of a help-mate.

Mother became ill with the flu last winter, which left her with a lung condition from which she never recovered. She bore her illness with much patience and cheerfulness, and expressed the hope that she could be restored to health, but was also resigned to the Lord's will for her life. She passed to her eternal reward at 1:15 a.m. on September 21, 1947, at the Halstead hospital; her age was 67 years and two months less three days.

Her all too early departure is mourned by the following children: Mrs. Jacob Bartel, Hillsboro; Reuben Mosiman, Reedley, Calif., W. W. Schroeder, Yankton, S. D.; Mrs. Joe Schrag, Mrs. Lydia Kaufman, Albert A. Schmidt, all of Freeman, S. D.; Dr. Edward H. Schmidt, Mrs. B. A. Bose of Wichita; Dr. Henry Smith, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Helen Toews, Kalispel, Montana; two sisters, Mrs. Bernhard Horn, Corn, Okla.; Mrs. Jacob Froese, Inola, Okla.; one brother, R. O. Janzen, Whitewater, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends. — The Children.
