— Adolf Schmidt, 69, of Goessel died at the Bethesda hospital there Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church. Surviving are his widow, the former Mrs. Anna Neumann; two daughters, Mrs. Rudy Jantz of Inola, Okla. and Mrs. William Unrau of Freeman, S. D.; two brothers and five sisters. Sisters living in Newton are Mrs. P. P. Schroeder, Mrs. Abraham Schmidt and Mrs. B. W. Schmidt.

ADOLF SCHMIDT

Adolf Schmidt, son of Peter P. and Helena Voth Schmidt of Hillsboro, Kansas, was born July 1, 1889, in the Alexanderwohl community where he received his early schooling.

He was reared in a Christian home and was baptized upon his confession of faith on May 30,1909, by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff and was received as a member in the Alexanderwohl church. Through the days of youth he remained a loyal member to his church.

On Nov. 17, 1915, he was married to Anna D. Schroeder at Inola, Okla. where they pioneered and established their first home on a farm in a new settlement. To this union were born two daughters,Harpa andNeva. He soon became an active member in the Eden Mennonite church in this community where he served as a trustee for twenty years. The experiences of this family were happy ones until mother took sick and finally entered into her Eternal Home May 12, 1947.

Adjustment to new ways of life came not without sickness and pain for him, but we were all pleased when it became evident that a family unit was to be re-established, and on June 6, 1950, he and Mrs. Anna Neumann were married in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, to share life's joys together. They made their home in Goessel where he reunited with the Alexanderwohl church, serving as an active trustee for five years.

During the past year father encountered a sickness which required treatment at the Prairie View hospital for six months, followed by serious surgery in the Bethel Deaconess hospital in Newton revealing an advanced cancerous condition which likely was a major cause of his sickness from the beginning. During these more trying days he became more and more concerned about spiritual things, turning often to Psalm 42 for comfort. After being at home for six months, he was admitted to the Bethesda Hospital where he passed away quietly on Saturday, Sept. 13,1958, at 2:30 p. m. reaching the age of 69 years, two months and 13 days.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

We shall long cherish the memory of our devoted husband and father. In church he took interest in singing in the men's chorus and was a lover of gospel songs. In the household and community he had a special interest in employing his carpenter skills to make things useful and handy.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Anna; two daughters, Harpa and her husband Rudy Jantz; Neva and her husband William Unrau; five grandsons; one step-daughter Susie, and her husband Jake F. Voth, and their children and grandchildren; two brothers, five sisters, and many other relatives and friends.

“Eye hath not seen nor ear heard the things which God has perpared [sic] for them that love him.”

Funeral services were held Sept. 16, 1958 at 2:00 p. m. in the Alexanderwohl church with Rev. P. A. Wedel in charge, assisted by Rev. G. B. Regier of Inola, Okla. assisting. — The Family.
