ABRAHAM H. SCHMIDT

Abraham H. Schmidt, son of John and Mary Reimer Schmidt, was born on March 7, 1895, near Corn, Okla. Here he spent his childhood days and attended the rural school.

On Sept. 15, 1915, he was united in marriage to Katie Dick. We established our first home on a farm near Corn. It was during these first years of married life that our father found real joy in the Lord through a genuine experience of salvation. On May 28, 1918, he was baptized upon his confession of faith and united with the M. B. Church.

We enjoyed our days together and the Lord gave us the added joy of accepting into our home two children, a son Robert Schmidt, and a daughter Adeline, now Mrs. Clarence Cornelsen of Reedley, Calif.

After spending eight years on the farm we moved to Bessie, Okla. where our father operated a grain elevator for many years. In 1944 we came to Reedley, where we have made our home to the present time.

The sincere life and separated walk of our beloved father caused the church to elect him as a minister of the Gospel in 1924. After serving for some years, he was officially ordained to this office by the Bessie, Okla. M. B. Church, the late Rev. J. J. Wiebe officiating. Our father had the joy of serving as pastor of this church for a number of years. Also in the Reedley M. B. Church, he has helped along as a minister and Sunday school teacher. He was a man of prayer and devoted to the cause of Christ.

During the last few years he had a slight heart ailment. Saturday morning, Nov. 9, 1963, after a rather peaceful night's rest, the Lord called him to glory. For us the passing was too sudden, but we know that he is in glory.

We lived in a happy state of matrimony 48 years, two months, and four days. He reached the age of 68 years, eight months and two days.

Besires [sic] his loving wife, son and daughter, he leaves to mourn one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, five grandchildren, two brothers, Peter Doerksen [sic Duerksen] of Corn, Okla. and John Doerksen [sic Duerksen] of Clinton, Okla., a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The memorial service was held in the Reedley M. B. Church with Rev. Dan Friesen officiating. — The Family.
