WILLIAM SCHLATTER

William Schlatter, son of John and Katie (Miller) Schlatter, was born near Wayland, Iowa on Aug. 30, 1885. in this community he grew to manhood.

In his teens he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church at Wayland. He remained loyal in this faith, being a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church at the time of his death.

On Sept. 6, 1908, he was united in marriage to Lydia H. Slagel of Wayland. They set up housekeeping in the Wayland community, Henry County, Iowa, which was their home until 1945. At that time they moved to Shipshewana, Ind. In 1964 they returned to Iowa, residing at the Pleasant View Home in Kalona. it was here that William passed away on Nov. 4, 1967, following a brief illness.

The family consists of two sons, Orie W. Schlatter of Cheyenne, Wyoming and L. William Schlatter of California, and one granddaughter, Doris Lee (Schlatter) Foster of Manchester, Mass.

Other survivors include his wife Lydia; two brothers, Dave Schlatter and John Schlatter, both of Wayland; two sisters Mrs. Simon Gingerich of Wayland, and Mrs. Cornelius Schrock of Shipshewana, Ind.; and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna (Mrs. Emery Yoder) of Wellman, Iowa.
