DAVEY SCHIFFLER

Davey Eugene Schiffler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Schiffler, was born June 4, 1955, at Filer, Idaho. When he was two years old his parents moved to a farm at Twin Falls. They attended church and Sunday school at Faith Memorial Mennonite Church at Filer.

On March 25, 1956 he was dedicated to the Lord in a service conducted by Rev. Harlem King, so the Lord took but His own when He took Davey home. From the time Davey came to live with us he was a very active and industrious boy, maybe because his stay with us was to be so short.

On Dec. 7, after prayer meeting at church a farewell was held for the family as they were planning to move to Denver, Colo. Dec. 8 was a clear, sunny day and Davey was outdoors playing with a rope and in a tree. He came to the house for a stool. The stool slipped to the ground from under him. When his mother found him he was ”safe in the arms of Jesus,” as they sang at his funeral service. Davey stayed with us only five years, six months and four days, but we thank God for having him with us, even for so short a time.

Davey leaves his parents, a brother, Danny, 7, a sister Going Reneg, 2, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Sauciest and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Schiffler; a great-grandmother, Mrs. C. E. Lichti of Shickley, Neb.; and many relatives and friends saddened by his sudden departure.

Services were conducted at Twin Falls, Idaho, on Dec. 10 by Rev. Norman Schmidt, using as a text, “And Jesus called a little child unto Him.” Matt. 18:2. We find comfort in the words of Jesus, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:16.
