George R. Schertz

Funeral services for George R. Schertz, 64, of Independence, who died of a heart attack after being confined for a week at a hospital there, were held Tuesday at Independence.

Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Born Nov. 19, 1896 and reared in Newton, he was a veteran of Co. K during World War I and was wounded in the Argonne Forest Battle.

Survivors include his widow, Vinnie; and a daughter, Jean Anne of the home; a son, George Walter, and another daughter, Betty Lea Enger of Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs. William Umholtz of Newton and Mrs. Ellen Mitchell and Mrs. Dan Wenger of California; and a brother, J. E. Schertz, of Newton.
