SEVEN KILLED IN PLANE CRASH, AUTO ACCIDENT

As the Review goes to press, word is received of fatal accidents at Harrisonburg, Va. And Metamora, Ill., which claimed the lives of seven persons.

A private plane flown by Elmer R. Berkey, 57, of Sheridan, Ore. crashed Saturday afternoon at Harrisonburg, killing Mr. Berkey, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Martin and Sanford Martin, all of Harrisonburg, and Samuel Kauffman of Pennsylvania.

A head-on auto collision near Metamora Sunday night claimed the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schertz (Mrs. Schertz the former Esther Strubhar.)

Double Funeral At Illinois Church

MR. AND MRS. ARTHUR SCHERTZ DIE IN HEAD-ON AUTO CRASH

Metamora, Ill. — Funeral services were held at the Calvary Mennonite Church in Washington Nov. 2 for Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Schertz, well known residents here who were killed in a highway crash Sunday night Oct. 30. The services were in charge of Rev. Harry Yoder, Rev. Ben Esch and Harvey Driver, and were widely attended.

Mrs. Schertz, who had returned from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Soldner at Decatur, Ind., was met by her husband at Washington. They were within a short distance of their farm home three miles east of here, when a car driven by a soldier struck the Schertz car head-on.

Mr. Schertz was instantly killed, and his wife died en route to a hospital. The soldier also was killed.

Mr. Schertz, who was 66, was the long-time chairman of the Woodford County Board of School Trustees and a former member of the Congo Inland Mission Board, and was active in the Calvary church. Mrs. Schertz was the former Esther Strubhar, and they were married Dec. 2, 1916.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur Jr., of Metamora, and Harold of Roanoke; four daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Davis and Ruth Schertz of Denver, Mrs. Harriett Soldner of Decatur, Ind., and Mrs. Dorothy Hostetler of Wonewok, Wis.; and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Schertz also leaves two brothers, and Mrs. Schertz, one brother and three sisters.
