LOCAL

. . .

— A tragic, although unusual accident happened to a local Santa Fe engineer, Walter Scherer, last week when the engine exploded as his train was approaching Dodge City. The impact of the explosion and the scalding steam caused his immediate death. Harry H. Warren, the fireman, was also seriously injured, but it is expected that he will recover. According to reports of the accident, the two men encountered trouble with their engine but attempted to complete the run to Dodge City, which would have been reached in but a few minutes had the accident not happened.
