KATHRYN SCHARTNER

Kathryn Schartner, daughter of the late Rev. Jacob and Helena Unruh Schartner, was born on a farm near Marion, S. D. on July 14, 1905.

In 1952 the family moved to Marion where she lived until her death.

She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, and on this confession of faith was baptized on May 8, 1927, by her father, Rev. Jacob Schartner, and was accepted as a member of the Karlswalder Mennonite Church. After this church was disolved [sic], she was received into the fellowship of the Bethesda Mennonite Church on Aug. 10, 1941.

She remained a faithful member, helping in the work of the Lord, wherever and whenever she could. She had a great heart for missions, and was active in the Ladies Mission Society.

She has been ailing with cancer since the latter part of April, 1960 and has had hospital care several times. She suffered a stroke of paralysis on her left side Oct. 29.

On Dec. 25 she became totally blind. After several days she partially regained her sight so that she could recognize people. On Jan. 10 she because very sick and gradually became weaker. Her end came at 11:40 a.m. on Monday Jan. 30. she reached the age of 55 years, six months and 16 days.

Her parents, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn, four sixteen and three brothers, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, two nephews and seven nieces, as well as many relatives and friends.

Kathryn found great comfort in Scripture passages and songs that she had memorized in her youth. The prayers of God's children helped her bear her burden.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church, with Rev. T. A. van der Smissen and Rev. Ed Duerksen officiating. — The Bereaved Family.
