Pioneer Immigrant Dies at Buhler

Buhler, Kan. — Jacob P. Sawatzky,, 87, was among the pioneer Mennonite immigrants coming out of Russia in the 1880's died at Schmidt's Nursing Home in Moundridge on April 28.

Mr. Sawatzky was widely known, having operated a Swedish massage parlor in Buhler until his retirement seven years ago. Born in Russia on Sept. 9, 1872, he came to the United States at the age of 10 and had lived at Buhler the past 56 years.

He was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren church where the funeral services were conducted April 30. Rev. G. W. Peters, the pastor, officiated.

Surviving are the widow, Sara; two sons, John and Harry, both of Buhler; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
