PAUL ERNEST RUTH

Paul Ernest Ruth, son of John A. and Clara (Eymann) Ruth and twin of the late Ernst P. Ruth, was born at Halstead, Kan. Nov. 25, 1885. After a long illness, he quietly departed this life on Oct. 4, 1962.

His formal education consisted of attending rural school and German Bible school in and near Halstead and in Hesston, Kan. where he moved with his parents in 1894. Later he also attended Bethel College for one year.

In 1901, upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, he was baptized by Rev. S. S. Baumgartner and received into the membership of the Garden Township Church of Hesston.

After his marriage to May Wilderman on Sept. 16, 1908, he transferred his membership to the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Dover, Okla., where they made their first home. In January 1910 they moved back to Hesston. It was here that their two sons and two daughters were born and reared.

He worked in the lumber business in Dover, Okla. and in Reedley and Parlier, Calif. and farmed while living in Hesston.

On March 7, 1929, after a short illness, his wife passed away. Left with four motherless children, he bravely carried on, being both mother and father to them, until they had all established homes of their own. In 1938 he moved to Reedley, Calif. where he made his home with a sister and two brothers.

On April 6, 1945, he was united in marriage to Susie Warkentin. The Lord permitted them to enjoy 17 years of blessed companionship together.

He was devoted to the Church and its message, and never missed an opportunity to attend worship services. It later years he enjoyed listening to sacred radio programs. Up until his passing he was a faithful member of the Colony Covenant Church of Parlier, Calif.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sue; his sons, Robert of Hesston, Kan. and Earl of Parlier, Calif.; his daughters, Jessie, Mrs. Reuben Cooprider of Norwalk, Calif. and Irma, Mrs. W. B. Somerton of LaFayette, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur D. of Reedley, Calif. and Daniel E. of Larned, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. E. A. (Stella) Dettweiler and Miss Emma Ruth of Landour, India; and many relatives and friends.

Memorial services were conducted at Reedly, Calif. and in Hesston, Kan. were [sic] he was interred.
