— Rev. J. J. Ratzlaff returned Tuesday from Pawnee Rock, where he was called to assist in the funeral services for Peter Rudiger, 64, who passed away last Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Pawnee Rock Mennonite church Monday afternoon, conducted by the local pastor, Rev. J. R. Schmidt, and Rev. J. J. Ratzlaff. Mr. Rudiger is survived by his wife and four children.

Peter Rudiger

Peter Rudiger, son of David and Elizabeth Rudiger, was born July 8, 1872 at Karolswalde Russia. In the year 1874 he immigrated to America with his mother, two sisters and four brothers. They settled near Dundee, Kansas, where he has lived all his life. He was baptised upon his confession of faith on April 14, 189a, by Rev. Johann Ratzlaff and taken into the Bergthal Mennonite church, where he has been a faithful member ever since.

On Jan. 23, 1898, he was united in marriage with Effie Unruh. To this union five children have been born, three sons and two daughters, one son Laurence having preceded him in death in June, 1915, at the age of 15 years.

He entered the St. Rose hospital in Great Bend on April 24 and underwent an operation on May 13, from which he never recovered. All that loving hands, doctors and nurses could do was done, but he was called to his heavenly home on May 21 at 7 o'clock p.m., at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 13 days. he suffered much on the last three days.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. As much as we feel the need of him here, we must find comfort in the words, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two daughters, Daisy and Susie; two sons Harry and Alfred; two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, two brothers, Andre and Carl, and many other relatives and friends.

A precious one from us has gone.
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home,
That never can be filled.
God in his wisdom hath recalled
The one his love hath given,
And though his body slumbers here
His soul is safe in heaven.
