. . .

— Funeral services were held at the Newton Church of the Brethren on Tuesday afternoon for Rev. Ulysses S. Royer, 89, who died Saturday evening at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. Before entering the hospital Dec. 11 he lived with a son, Reuben Royer, of Route 1. A retired farmer and Brethren minister, Rev. Royer was born at Richland, Pa. and had lived in Harvey County since he was 16 years old. In later years he was a tireless worker for the temperance cause and became a familiar figure on Newton streets as he carried on a personal campaign against the use of liquor and tobacco. Rev. Royer is survived by five children and a large number of grandchildren, including two great-grandchildren.
