RETIRED FARMER DIES FOLLOWING FALL AT HIS HOME

Morton, Ill. — Joseph P. Roth, 91, who farmed in Tazewell county throughout his life, passed away at his home here Saturday morning. Nov. 26, about an hour after he fell backward down a stairway, striking his head on a radiator. Cause of death was not immediately determined.

Funeral services were announced for Tuesday afternoon at the Morton Mennonite church, where he was a member.

He leaves a daughter, three sons, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

JOSEPH P. ROTH

Joseph P. Roth, oldest son of Rev. Daniel and Catherine Ropp Roth, was born on a farm north of Morton, Ill. on March 28, 1858.

In early life he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and remained a faithful member of the Mennonite Church until death. He was called to his heavenly Home on the morning of Nov. 26, 1949, at his home in Morton, at the age of 91 years, seven months and 28 days.

On February 6, 1881, be was married to Amelia Ropp of near Pekin, Ill. The following children of this union survive: Miss Mina E, Edwin J, Austin D., all of Morton, and Wilber J., now of Gibson City, Ill. Nine devoted grandchildren and two great grandchildren mourn his departure.

On October 12, 1892, Mrs. Roth was called by her Lord to her heavenly Home, and five years later, on Nov. 2, 1897, he was married to her sister, Elizabeth Ropp. On November 19, 1940, she passed on to her reward.

The following brothers and sister survive: D. K. Roth of Gibson City, Ill., Mrs. Mary Teuscher of Fisher, Ill., and Samuel Roth and Miss Amelia of Morton. Two brothers and four sisters are deceased.

His entire life was spent in the vicinity of' Morton. He was deeply interested in farming and agriculture, always cheerful, and a loving father to his family, relatives and friends. His departure will be deeply missed by all who have learned to know of his kindness and tender love and devotion.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 1:00 p. m. at the residence and 1:30 p. m. at the Morton Mennonite church. Rev, H. N. Roeschley and Rev. Joseph Davis were the officiating ministers. A male Quartet from the Calvary Mennonite church at Washington, consisting of Bryson Roth, Irvin Nofsinger, Solomon Bachman, and Lester Smith, sang.

Pall bearers were his three sons, Edwin J., Austin D. and Wilber J. Roth, and his three grandsons, Richard A., Melvin E. and Morris D. Roth. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.
