ELMER ROTH

Elmer N. Roth, 89 died March 26, 1993, at Morton (Ill.) Health Care Ltd. He was formerly of Hopedale.

Funeral services were held at Hopedale Mennonite Church, with H. James Smith and Lola Rosenberger officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Tremont with Glen Horner and Thelma Horner officiating.

He was born Sept. 6, 1903, in Milford, Neb., to Joseph G. and Mary “Molly” Roth. He married Esther M. Martin Jan. 3, 1929, in Beaver Crossing, Neb.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Darlene (Herbert) Roth of Morton; two sons, Norm Roth of East Peoria and Gene Roth of Tremont; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Kate Nitzsche of Hesston, Kan., and Mary Ann Erb of Casselton, N.D.; and a brother, Lloyd Roth of Big Prairie, Ohio. Three brothers preceded him in death.

A member of Tazewell County Farm Bureau, he was a retired farmer. He also was a former Hopedale Township Road Commissioner, a bridge tender for the state of Illinois for nine years and a director at Sugar Grove School.

He was also a janitor at Hopedale Mennonite Church, where he was a member and taught Sunday school for many years. he also was an associate member of First Mennonite Church in Morton.
