BENJAMIN R. ROTH

Benjamin R. Roth, son of Nicholas and Magdalena (Yoder) Roth, was born in Alsace Lorraine on Dec. 4, 188, and passed away at his home near Wayland, Iowa on Dec. 5,1958 at the age of 74 years and one day.

He had been in failing health the past year and was confined at his home for the last three months.

At the age of seven he, with his parents, came to America, locating near Wayland, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life.

In his youth he accepted Christ and united with the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church near Wayland, where he remained a faithful member until death.

On Nov. 8, 1908, he was united in marriage with Mary Graber. This union was blessed with nine children; Elmer, Lavina, (Mrs. Simon Leichty), Dan D., Lester, Glen, Stella (Mrs. Harold Wenger), Vernon, Edwin, Lucille (Mrs. Edwin Swartzendruber), all of the Wayland community.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, one sister, seven half sisters, and two infant grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing his life companion, nine children, 40 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, (Anna K. Gerig) of Albany, Oregon, and many other relatives and friends.

He was a loving companion, father, and grandfather and bore his suffering patiently.

He and his wife were privileged to observe their golden wedding anniversary quietly at home on Nov. 8.

Services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7. Rev. Willard Leichty and Rev. Glen Richard were in charge of services at the Roth home. At 2:00p. m. services were held at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Rev. Simon Gingerich and Rev. Vernon Gerig in charge. Burial was made in the Sugar Creek cemetery.
