● Fannie Schrag Kauffman Ries, 96, of Freeman, S. D., died March 19 at Marion, S. D. Graveside services were held March 24 at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with Erwin Goering officiating. She was a retired curator of the Kauffman Museum, North Newton. A native of Salem, Ore., she was a member of Bethany Mennonite Church, Freeman. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Kauffman of Marion, S.D., and Ralph Kauffman of Freeman; one daughter, Rose Gering of Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Elvin Schrag of Washington; and two sisters, Alice Cary and Adeline Schwartz, both of Washington; and seven grandchildren. Preceding her in death in 1961 was her husband, Charles J. Kauffman, longtime curator of the Kauffman Museum. Later she married Henry Ries, who also preceded her in death.
