JOHN H. REMPEL

Alexanderfeld, south Russia was the birth· place of John H. Rempel on November 19, 1904. His childhood and youth were spent in Alexandrowka, Siberia where, at the age of 15 years, he accepted Christ as his Savior.

In the fall of 1927 he married Susanna Loewen. Their marriage was blessed with eight children and a happy home. Osborne, Man., became their new home in 1927 after emigration to Canada. Seventeen years later they moved to another farm near Chilliwack, B.C. The East Chilliwack Mennonite Breth· ren Church became their spiritual home; both were baptized and became members there in 1949.

A stroke forced him to leave the farm in 1968, and move to a house on Maple Ave. in Chilliwack. He fellowshipped at the Broad· way Mennonite Brethren Church and en· joyed good health until undergoing surgery last September. The Lord called him home on November 5. Rev. Herman Lenzmann officiated at a funeral service three days later at the Broadway Church.

Mr. Rempel was a man of few words, but a man of action. He loved his family well. He was predeceased by two brothers, six sisters and his son George.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Susanna; six sons and their families, Henry, Cornelius, William and Peter in Chilliwack, John in Kamloops and Jacob in Vancouver; a daughter Helen (Mrs. Joe) Ottom of Vancouver Island; a daughter·in·law, Viola Rempel of Chilliwack; two brothers , William and Hemy ; a sister, (Mrs.) Suzanna Kasper; and many other relatives and friends.
