REV. HENRY S. REMPEL

Henry S. Rempel of Winnipeg passed away on July 6. He was born to Henry and Margaretha Rempel on November 27, 1882 in southern Russia. His family emigrated to Canada in 1886, settling in what is now Kleefeld, Manitoba. At nineteen he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He was married to Maria Hiebert in 1902, a union that was to be blessed with six children. In 1912 the couple joined the EMB Church, and it was there than Henry was called into the ministry. In 1924 his family moved to Winkler, Man., where they joined the MB Church. Nearly all of their time there was spent in mission work, and for some years Henry served as a traveling evangelist. Later, after moving to Winnipeg, he served as assistant to C.N. Hiebert of the Winnipeg City Mission, a position he held for six years. His wife Maria passed away in April, 1930, and a son only a few months later. Two years later he mar ried Anna Neufeld of Winnipeg. In 1935 the Rempels moved to Saskatoon, where they spent 34 years in a very fruitful MB city mission work. In 1969 he and his wife retired and moved to Steinbach, Man., where Henry enjoyed the company of old friends and relatives.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Anna; two daughters, Margaret and Linda; two sons, Harry and Bernie; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held on July 10 in the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church in Winnipeg.
