GEORGE G. REMPEL

George G. Rempel was born on Feb. 18, 1889, at Jansen, Neb., to George F. and Margaretha Fast Rempel. He grew to young manhood in the Jansen area.

As a young man he recognized his need of salvation, and found peace with God by receiving Christ as Saviour and Lord. Shortly thereafter, on June 13, 1909, he was baptized and received into the fellowship of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren church at Jansen.

On Nov. 17, 1912, he was united in marriage to Katharine Enns, at Jansen. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Dallas, where the family resided until 1918. In that year they moved back to Jansen, and farmed there until 1936. They then came to make their home in Salem, Oregon, where Mr. Rempel pursued the trade of cabinet making and carpentry. It was here that Mrs. Rempel died on April 15, 1947.

Since the time of his residence at Salem, Mr. Rempel had been a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren church in Dallas. He was faithful in his work for and interest in the church. He had a major share in the construction of the present E. M. B. church building in Dallas, and worked in the construction of numerous other churches in the Willamette valley. He had the facility to draw and keep many friends. His large circle of friends embraced all ages, faiths and classes.

Mr. Rempel suffered a heart attack on Sunday afternoon and passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1959. He reached the age of 70 years and seven months.

Mr. Rempel leaves three daughters Miss Katharina Rempel, Miss Margaret Rempel, and Mrs. Ruth Ratzlaff, all of Salem; one son-in-law, Harlan Ratzlaff; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Harlan Roy Ratzlaff; five brothers, Peter, Henry and John Rempel, all of Fairbury, Neb., Herman Rempel of Diller, Neb., and Jacob Rempel of Petaluma, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Friesen of Fairbury, Mrs. Agnes Friesen of Dinuba, Calif., Mrs. Katherine Friesen and Mrs. Helena Thiessen, both of Reedley, Calif.; and a large host of relatives and friends.

Though sorrowing his departure, we rejoice in the blessed hope of the return of Christ and the resurrection of the saints! — The Family.
