ERNEST K. REMPEL

Ernest E. Rempel, son of Jacob and Augusta (Ewert) Rempel, was born Dec. 13, 1892, northeast of Hillsboro, Kansas. He spent his youth in that community where he also received his elementary education.

As a young man he chose farming as his career and took up a homestead claim in Montana. In 1918 he returned to Kansas, was married to Emma Ewert on April 4, and they returned to Montana. In 1920 they moved to a farm north of Hillsboro. Later they moved to San Luis Valley, Colorado, where they lived until 1930. It was while they were living there that their two children, Lee and Esther, came to live with them. The family returned to Kansas and settled southwest of Peabody where Ernest resided until his death.

In his youth he was baptized into the Mennonite Church, later transferring his membership to the Peabody Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a director of the Flint Hills R.E.C.A., served on the board of trustees and official board of the Methodist Church, and in many civic organizations.

He gave much of his time and talents to the church, which he loved, and also to the other organizations to which he belonged. He liked to sing and will be greatly missed as a faithful choir member. His greatest concern was his family and friends. He was willing to help everyone.

After a short illness, he passed to his eternal reward on Nov. 6, 1957, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. He reached the age of 64 years, 10 months, 24 days.

He will be greatly missed by his widow, Emma; son Lee and wife Arlene; daughter Esther and husband Darwin McIntosh; and one grandson, Randall McIntosh. Also surviving are two brothers, William of Nipawin, Sask. and Herman of Berryville, Ark.; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt of Goessel, Kan., Mrs. P. F. (Minna) Hanses [sic Hansen] of Durham, Kan., Mrs. J. John [sic John J.] (Maria) Friesen of Butterfield, Minn., Mrs. Leroy (Augusta) Harris of Wallace, Idaho, Mrs. C. C. (Ella) Crist, Long Beach, Calif. His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death. He also leaves many friends.
