Jona V. Reimer

Jona V. Reimer, 90, died on Thursday (July 19, 2012) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1922, in Walton to David U. and Caroline (Voth) Reimer. On May 15, 1945, he married Gladys Voth, and she preceded him in death. He later married Selma Bartel on Oct. 28, 1954, and she also preceded him in death.

Jona was a retired farmer, and he also drove a school bus for the Goessel Schools and Northview Developmental Services. He was a member of Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.

Jona looked forward to spending time with his friends during coffee at the Whistle Stop Café in Walton. He also looked forward to spending time with his loving family.

He is survived by his son and his wife, Delbert and Sherrie Reimer of Taylors, S. C.; daughter and her husband, Nadine and Murray Reimer Penner of Wichita; brother, Richard Reimer of Smithville, Ohio; and sister, Evelyn Buller of North Newton. He also is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His special friend was Mildred Buller of Peabody.

Jona was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and a brother, Wilbert Reimer.

A celebration of Jona's life will be at 10:30 a. m. Saturday (Sept. 22, 2012) at Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel College or Mennonite Mission Network, in care of Petersen Funeral Home of Newton.
