JOHN J. REIMER

John J. Reimer, son of John J. and Katherina (Penner) Reimer, was born Nov. 8, 1881, in Hope Valley near Hillsboro, Kansas. He went to his eternal home on Sept. 5, 1958, in the Salem Hospital, Hillsboro.

He received his elementary schooling in the Hope Valley School.

In June,1902, he was baptized and received into the Brudertal Church. He and mother transferred their membership to the First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro in 1917, and he was a faithful member of this church at the time of his death.

On Sept. 4, 1902, he was united in marriage to Maria Ratzlaff, with whom he was permitted to share 56 years of happy married life. This union was blessed with six children, two sons and four daughters. One daughter and one son preceded him in death when they were two years old.

In 1905 they homesteaded in Beaver County, Okla., near Hooker. After having lived there for eight years they returned to Kansas in 1913. His occupation was farming until 1928 when they moved from the farm to Hillsboro, where he took up interior decorating.

In 1952 they had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

He was in good health most of his life except for the last four years when a dropsy condition developed. On August 4,1957, he suffered a stroke which left him unable to speak and an invalid. He received loving care at the Home for the Aged, and on August 9 of this year he was taken to the Salem Hospital where he passed away.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife and four children, John H. Reimer and wife Audrey of Hays, Kansas, Linda, Mrs. Ed. F. Jost of Hillsboro, Luella, Mrs. John F. Jost of Hillsboro, and Mary, Mrs. Floyd Cartwright of Wichita; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, five sisters-in-law and their families, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral srevices [sic] were held Sept. 9, 1958, at the First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro, with Rev. Elbert Koontz and Rev. H. T. Unruh officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery east of Hillsboro. — The Family.
