— Friends in Newton were shocked to hear of the death of Mr. A. W. Reimer which occurred at the Bethel hospital at 11:40 P. M. Saturday, June 15. Mr. Reimer had been in the hospital a little over a week and suffered very severely. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon. Mr. Reimer reached the ripe age of 71. Besides his many relatives here in Newton many others from a distance are here to attend the funeral. We hope to publish a fuller obituary next week.

Our father, A. W. Reimer, was born March 28, 1850 in South Russia. In the year 1876 he emigrated with his mother to America and in the fall of the next year 1877 was baptized upon the confession of his faith by elder Jacob Buller and thus became a member of the Alexanderwohl church. Feb. 23, 1879 he was married to maria Schroeder. To them ten children were born, eight sons and two daughters. of these two sons and one daughter preceded him in death. The number of his grandchildren is 23 of these one has died.
When in the year 1920 the Goessel Mennonite Church organized itself our parents became members of this congregation. Feb. 23, 1929 they were privileged to celebrate the fiftieth, the golden anniversary of their matrimonial life. During the last ten years they had their home in Newton.
Thursday, June 6th, father took suddenly ill with acute bronchitis. We had hopes for his recovery but God willed otherwise for on June 15, he died suddenly at 11:40 P. M., a sudden stroke bringing about his end., — having been sick for about 10 days. He attained to an age of 71 years, 2 months and 18 days. During all the years of his life he had, so to say, never been sick enough to be confined to bed.
His aim in life was to do what was right but his own righteousness he sought in nothing else but that what Christ has done for us. His last words to mother were, let us submit ourselves to God entirely. We sorrow in our bereavement but not as such that have no comfort and no hope.
