• Funeral services for Mrs. Helene Regier, 88, widow of Jacob J. Regier, were held Monday forenoon at the First Mennonite Church with Dr. Albert Epp officiating. Mrs. Regier died May 31 at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home. She was the former Helene Harder of Whitewater. Mr. Regier died in 1963. Surviving are two daughters, Elfriede Regier of Topeka and Mrs. Leonard Hanes of Edinburg, Texas; three sons, Alvin of Peabody, Rev. Wilbert A. of Salem, Ore., and Rev. Jacob J. Jr. of Omaha; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

MRS. HELENE REGIER

On May 31, 1974, in fulfillment of John 14:3, the Lord Jesus Christ came and received unto Himself our dear mother, Mrs. Helene Regier, "that where He is, there she is also."

Our mother was born of godly parents, Rev. Gustave and Helene Harder, on May 13, 1886. She and her brother, Bernhard, now 92 and residing at the Bethel Home for Aged, grew up in a happy home, in an atmosphere of love and understanding.

On June 1, 1903, she was baptized by her father and became a member of the Emmaus Mennonite Church at Whitewater. At that time her father gave her as her life verse Psalm 73:23, 24: "Nevertheless, I am continually with thee; thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." And the Lord has completely fulfilled his promise.

On Oct. 24, 1907 she married our father, Jacob J. Regier. They spent their lives on a farm in the Whitewater community until the tornado of June 8, 1941. The family members were all spared, and they then moved to Newton. Their marriage saw many blessings and trials, victories and defeats, sickness, surgery and healing, joys and sorrows, but God is gracious and extended to them His grace which is sufficient.

Five children were born to this union; Alvin, at the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home; Wilbert and wife Ruth of Salem, Ore.; Elfriede, Topeka, Kan.; Jake and wife Betty, Omaha, Neb.; Helen and husband, Leonard, of Edinburg, Texas. She leaves 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her deepest delight was to speak of and share spiritual truths, and though she didn't have the privilege of attending Christian schools, yet the Spirit of God taught her through His Word, through memorization of many hymns and verses. These were her strength in times of storms and temptations, and the difficulties of life seemed to achieve his character in her. "A woman that trusted the Lord, she shall be praised, Her children arise up and call her blessed." — The Family.
