A. J. J. REGIER

A. J. J. Regier, son of Rev. J. J. and Maria Schellenberg Regier, was born April 6, 1892, on a farm near Henderson, Neb. At the age of three, he with his parents was privileged to go to South Russia to visit his parents brothers and sisters. He spent all of his youth in the Henderson community and attended school there.

In 1910 he enrolled at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. and it was here that he accepted Christ as his Savior, was baptized, and received into the membership of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. As a young man he also attended York College in Nebraska and was engaged in public school teaching for a short time. Due to the early death of his father, he remained at home with his mother during the time he was teaching.

On Aug. 12, 1914, he was married to Tena Wall, who had been reared in his home community at Henderson and whom he had known since early childhood. We began our married life at Henderson. Two children, Linda and William Henry, were born to us but both of them died in infancy. In 1920 we moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, where we lived for 14 years. Later we made our home in San Jose, Calif., until we moved to Hillsboro in 1954. After being members of several churches in Canada and California, we again united with the Hillsboro M. B. Church in 1954. During these years two daughters, Velma and Catherine, were adopted and our husband and father worked as a farmer, mechanic, and teacher. We had looked forward to celebrating our golden wedding anniversary in less than a year.

For the last seven years we have given ourselves to the work of the conference endowment fund. Working under the Board of Trustees of the General Conference, it was a joy to do the Lord's work and to travel through the churches and to meet so many of the people in our brotherhood. It was our hope that we could travel through some of the Canadian churches in the coming months and then retire in Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. The Lord in his wisdom and mercy, however, had different plans.

He became seriously ill very suddenly about six weeks ago and spent the last five weeks in the hospital where he quietly passed away on Tuesday evening, Aug. 27, 1963, having reached the age of 71 years, four months and 21 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, one brother, and four half-sisters. Surviving are his wife, Tena Regier; two children, Velma Regier of Lincoln, Calif., and Catherine, Mrs. George Powell and husband and son of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. J. J. Hiebert; one sister-in-law, Mrs. John S. Regier; nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. — Mrs. Tena Regier and Family.
