MYRTLE S. REEDER
Myrtle Stella Carrington Reeder, 85, of Roseburg, Ore., died at the home of her daughter on July 13, 1987, following an extended illness.
She was born April 7, 1902, at Cheraw, Colo., to William H. and Elanor L. Monroe Plank Carrington. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl.
She received her teaching degree and taught elementary school for three years before marrying Harold Alfred Reeder on May 19, 1923.
In the spring of 1934 she and her husband joined East Holbrook Mennonite Church, Cheraw. That fall they moved with their five oldest children to Idaho. Three more children were born at Filer.
In 1947 they moved to Albany, Ore., to serve the Mennonite Church as first matron and superintendent of the Albany Mennonite Home for the Aged. They lived in Albany about 12 years. Later they served at Bethel in rural visitation, at the Portland Rescue Mission, and at the Mennonite Home as needed.
They were charter members of the Tangent Mennonite Church and active in the ministry there. Her husband was ordained as deacon in 1955. In 1972 they moved to Winston, Ore., to help in the church there and to be near their two youngest daughters.
After the death of her husband on April 26, 1979, she resided in the homes of her children.
Her survivors include three daughters, Juanita Stutzman of Buhl, Idaho, Josephine Schlabach of Greenwood, Del., and Elanor Ropp of Roseburg; five sons, Charles Reeder of Bothell, Wash., Alfred Reeder of Ennis, Mont., Harry Reeder of Porum, Okla., Henry Reeder of Vanderhoff, B. C., and David Reeder of Nampa, Idaho; 38 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren as well as several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held July 17, 1987, at Hopewell Mennonite Church, Hubbard, Ore., with pastors Melvin Schrock, Roy Hofstetler and Sterling Roth in officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
