Mrs. Jacob Preheim, 63, died at her home in Monroe Friday, June 9. She is survived by her husband, Jacob, and one son, William, of Monroe; two sisters and two brothers reside in the East. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 P. M. at the Mennonite church at Monroe, conducted by the Rev. S. S. Baumgartner. Interment took place in the Monroe cemetery.

Mary Preheim of Monroe, Wash., was born August 31, 1863 [sic 1869], in South Russia. She came to this country at the age of six years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Josef Flickinger and settled in McPherson Co., Kansas. She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior at the age of 16 and was baptized by the Elder Jacob Stucky.
In March, 1887, she was married to the now bereaved husband, Jacob Preheim. For over 21 years they have lived in this community. She was one of the charter members of this church and took an active interest in its work, especially in the ladies' sewing society. She was a hard worker and faithful handmaid of the Lord wherever she was placed. We remember her as a faithful churchgoer. We remember how she used to come with crutches before any one else, and stay until the last, in order not to be conspicuous with her impediment.
She passed away Friday morning, June 9, after a siege of painful affliction caused by a fall. For almost two years she had but few moments in which she did not suffer more or less severely. We have reasons to believe that as the gold in the furnace so her faith was made more perfect through suffering, She leaves to mourn her departure, her aged husband, one adopted son William, four grandchildren,two brothers and two sisters in Kansas, one sister in South Dakota,and a great number of relatives and friends. Her age has come to 68 years and 9 months. She has been her husband's faithful companion for 46 years.
The funeral was conducted from the Mennonite church and her body placed in the private lot in the Monroe cemetery. Words of comfort were spoken by S. S. Baumgartner and missionary P. J. Boehr who happened to be the church's guest at that time.
