PETER E. PLETT

Peter E. Plett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Plett, was born September 7, 1883, near Henderson, Nebr. In this vicinity he spent his boyhood days and attended the country school.

In 1899 he had a very vivid salvation experience. It came to him while he was working alone in the garden. He immediately rushed to tell his parents about it and then took his saddle horse to ride to neighbors and friend to tell them about his experience and to confess his sins. This faithful devotion to the Lord our father had to the very end.

On December 13, 1906, he was united in marriage with Helena Penner. This union, which lasted 52 years and 10 days, was blessed with six children. One son, Samuel, passed away only a few months ago.

In 1911 the family moved to Enid, Okla., where they spent the next 30 years on a farm. In 1941 they came to Reedley, Calif., where they remained the rest of his days.

Our father, who was a twin, never was a strong man. However, he was a man that worked hard and provided for his family. About nine months ago he became quite ill and was confined to his bed. After caring for him in our home for some time he was moved to a rest home in Dinuba, Calif. Here he spent the last seven months of his life. We are very grateful to Bro. and Sis. Wiebe for the fine care he received during this time in their rest home. On August 13 he suffered a stroke, which left him speechless. Very often he would longingly point up to heaven. The Lord delivered him Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 1958, at about 5:00 o'clock, and his soul went home to the with the Lord. He reached the age of 75 years, three months, and 16 days.

Those who remain to mourn his departure are his loving wife, Mrs. Helena Plett, Reedley; two daughters, Emma, Mrs. Henry Ediger, Chicago, and Stella Helen Plett, Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sons, Peter and Cornelius, Reedley, and Carl, Bakersfield; six brothers, Cornelius and Jacob of Hillsboro, Kan., Abe Lehigh, Kan., Frank, Atwater, Calif., Isaac, Tulsa, Okla., and David, Romana, Okla.

There are also three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nine brothers-in-law, 15 sisters-in-law and many friends and relatives who stand by in this hour of sorrow.

The memorial service was held in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church on Dec. 29, 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Dan Friesen and Rev. H. R. Wiens officiating. A male quartet sang two numbers. — The Family.
