Mrs. Mary Siemens Plett, daughter of John and Anna Rempel Siemens, was born on May 2, 1884 in Reno County northeast of Buhler, Kan. Her elementary education consisted of four short years of German and English with many absences due to chores at home.

On Aug. 4, 1901 she was baptized upon her confession of faith in Christ her Savior and Lord by Rev. Bernard Buhler and became a member of the Hebron Mennonite Church. She enjoyed work with the mission societies, and when health did not permit her to attend, she spent hours at home sewing for those in need. She remained a faithful member of the Hebron Church to the end.

On May 17, 1906 she was married to Cornelius Plett, with whom she shared joys and sorrows for more than 45 years. They lived on a farm south of Buhler until father's health failed, at which time the moved into Buhler. Father preceded her in death in September of 1951. Mother remained in her Buhler home until February 1967 when she took up residence in the Pleasantview Home, Inman, Kan.

Mother enjoyed life and was happiest when busy. As long as health permitted her fingers were not idle. During the last two years health began t o fail intermittently. On Sept. 7, 1971 her illness became acute and she was taken to Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, where she died on Oct. 28, 1971. She reached the age of 87 years, five months and 26 days.

Those preceding her in death were a daughter, Annie, Mrs. Marvin Neufeldt, five sisters and three brothers.

She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Dr. John V. Plett of Butte, Mont.; three daughters, Selma, Mrs. P. T. Franz of Inman, Gustie, Mrs. Henry E. Franz of Buhler, Erma, Mrs. Edwin J. Schmidt of Buhler; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna, Mrs. P. W. Balzer, Agatha, Mrs. D. D. Balzer, Kate, Mrs. J. C. Wiens, and Nettie, Mrs. J. C.
