Struck by Car While Walking on Highway

Altona, Manitoba. — While walking on the highway north of Altona, Sunday evening, Aug. 26, Peter E. Peters, 57, was struck from behind by an automobile and instantly killed. The driver of the car, Arthur Hiebert, reported he had dimmed his lights to meet another vehicle and when the bright lights were turned ou [sic] again, Mr. Peters was directly in the path. The Hiebert car swerved and went into the ditch, but neither he nor Mrs. Hiebert were injured.

Funeral services for Mr. Peters were held at the Sommerfelder church here, of which he was a member. He had never married.

In another accident in Altona early the same day, the lights failed on a car driven by David Braun, 17, causing him to drive into the ditch. David was rushed to the hospital with a head injury, and his companions, J. P. Dueck and Mary Abrams, were shaken up.
