HELENA PETERS

Helena Peters of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away Sept. 26. She was born Jan. 3, 1898 to Jacob P. and Helena Bargen in Schonau, Zagradovka, southern Russia. Four of 11 siblings died in childhood. She accepted the Lord in childhood and was baptized May 25, 1914 by Franz Martens. She enjoyed singing and youth meetings. On Feb. 24, 1924 she was married to Jacob Wilhelm Peters of Orloff, Zagradovka by Franz Martens. They took over his father's farm since his father had been killed by bandits. In October, 1925 they arrived in Canada. They worked on Cornelius Wall's farm in Borden, Sask. for a year, lived on a farm in Blumenort, Sask. 1926-33, rented a larger farm near Neville, Sask. until 1939 and then returned to Blumenort. The economic situation was difficult, and three children died. In 1944 they moved to B.C., farming near South Abbotsford MB Church. After 20 years they moved to Vancouver and worshipped at Vancouver MB Church. In 1966 they moved to Clearbrook and joined Clearbrook MB Church. Jacob died in 1976. In 1978 she moved to Tabor Home. She was always concerned to attend as many worship services as she could, remained faithful to the Lord and her family in good days and hard days, wanted to see the good in people and not complain, retained her keen sense of humour until the end and was an example of quiet and faithful Christian living. She is mourned by her children Jacob, Helen Reimer, Katie, Betty Klassen and Bill; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters. The funeral was Oct. 2 in Clearbrook MB Church, with Jacob Pauls ministering.
